As of today, February 2, 2018, the Saratoga County Rental Assistance Program (SCRAP) will be officially renamed TSA Housing First. Housing First is an approach to quickly and successfully connect individuals and families experiencing homelessness to permanent housing without preconditions and barriers to entry, such as sobriety, treatment or service participation requirements. Supportive services are offered to maximize housing stability and prevent returns to homelessness as opposed to addressing predetermined treatment goals prior to permanent housing entry.
On August 1, 2017 Transitional Services officially took over the program from the City Of Saratoga Springs, and hired back former MICA Program Director, Matthew Durham, as the Housing First Coordinator. Housing First is a HUD funded program whose aim is to assist those experiencing homelessness to find safe, affordable and stable housing. TSA feels that the new name, Housing First, better reflects the spirit of the program in our efforts to prevent homelessness and support permanent housing in Saratoga County.
Please feel free to contact Matt at the TSA Main Office for eligibility information or to clarify any questions you may have about Housing First.
