Our Mission Statement:
To provide high quality, clinically and medically appropriate services in a safe, therapeutic, and least restrictive environment, and to establish or return the client to optimal stabilization or functioning. Our goal is to ensure that when care is clinically and medically necessary, it will be provided in the most clinically and cost-effective manner possible, and in the most appropriate, least restrictive treatment setting.

 

Hedgerow Apartment Program

Hedgerow Apartment Program (HAP) is an alcoholism supportive apartment program designed to serve 6 men and women who are recovering from the disease of alcoholism or drug addiction. The program provides housing in three off site apartments in the community. By providing continued support services beyond the scope of a half way house, HAP staff work closely with each resident to facilitate a successful, alcohol and drug free transition back into the community while reducing recidivism.

Licensure and Sponsorship: HAP is licensed by the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and operated under the sponsorship of Transitional Services association, Inc., of Saratoga Springs. TSA is a private, not-for profit agency providing a range of residential support services to children and adults in transition to least restrictive environments.

Location: Our HAP apartments are located in the village of Ballston Spa, NY, just eight miles south of Saratoga Springs. The apartments are close to our halfway house so as to ensure a strong connection to the recovering community there.

Goals and Objectives:The Hedgerow Apartment Program is designed to accomplish three basic goals:

  1. To provide residence for individuals recovering from the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction in a drug free setting.
  2. To facilitate a successful and gradual transition back into the community by assisting the resident in developing and practicing independent living skills.
  3. To reduce recidivism by providing continued support services beyond the scope of the halfway house.
With respect to the above goals, it is vital that program staff and residents function in cooperation with Alcoholics Anonymous community in order to integrate the clients into this lifelong fellowship. The most central goal of the program is to facilitate, bolster, and further maintain a progressive recovery from the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction and to attain the basic skills necessary for successful, alcohol/drug free independent community living.

Staffing: Services at HAP are provided by dedicated, trained professional staff assist the residents in creating a safe and supportive environment that facilitates a maximum opportunity for recovery from the disease of alcoholism for each resident. Staff at the halfway house are available to HAP residents 24 hours seven days a week to provide support and guidance as needed.

Methodology: Methodology includes shared housing responsibilities, group counseling, one-to-one counseling with program staff, vocational training and/or active job search, development of social/recreational activities, regular outpatient counseling and linkage with medical treatment where indicated. Residents are required to attend of AA meetings and a structured day program which may include outpatient counseling, school, volunteer or paid employment or job hunting activities. Program components include vocational planning and preparation, enhancement of social skills, enhancement of coping skills and the development and practice of life skills including time and money management.

Target Population: The target population consists of individuals who have recently completed a halfway house, long term residential or intensive outpatient program whose home environments are non-conducive to sobriety and who are in need of continued assistance in the development of their sober support system and independent living skills. The program will consider self-referrals as well as referrals from all appropriate agencies, family members and employers. Persons are accepted on a voluntary basis must be clean and sober for a minimum of three months at the time of admission, are actively involved in an inpatient or intensive outpatient program and express a desire to maintain sobriety.

Admission Criteria: A potential client must be a minimum of 18 years of age, have a primary diagnosis of alcohol or substance dependence, and express a sincere desire to maintain his/her sobriety. Motivation plays a key role in the treatment of alcoholism and drug abuse and is therefore a major criteria for admission. We encourage any individual who feels in need of our services and expresses and appropriate willingness, to consider our program at HAP.

Program Fee: Program fees are charged on the basis of program cost and a client’s ability to pay. Sources of payment include wages, unemployment insurance, pension, private insurance, private pay, SSI/SSD, or Home Relief. Program staff will assist all clinets to pursue avenues of financial support and clients are expected to meet porgram cost whenever possible.
